Measuring a New Low for Democrats. Is Boasso to Blame?
The Democrat Party of Louisiana has recently come out with a campaign advertisement that suggests the Democrats have gone past desperation and straight into the gutter. Not only is the Democrat Party responsible for a highly inflammatory and personally offensive attack on Bobby Jindal, the Democrats are insisting that it be continued. Despite calls for removing the ads, Democrats are insisting that their slander continue to be aired on Monroe’s KNOE-TV and Roy Frostenson, General Manager, has decided the ads will continue for now; so much for decency in broadcasting. Perhaps this is the type of media that has produced the concerns recently expressed by Bobby Jindal.
Today Fox News is reporting the truth of the distortions and went on to point out that the Democrats are only buying airtime in heavily Protestant NORTH Louisiana. This can only be seen as an attempt to manipulate non-Catholics by using clear falsehoods in an area of the state likely to be strongly carried by Bobby Jindal. It can easily be said that the Democrats hold the voters in North Louisiana in complete disdain, thinking them not smart enough to do their own research and unable to see through the Democrats’ outright lies. With record low moral guidance, the Democrats would seem to have bottomed with the distortion of historical papers and then falsely accusing Bobby Jindal of saying negative comments about Protestants, however, the Democrats stoop even lower by only supplying part of the story, requiring those interested to purchase the entire article. This is likely an intended strategy figuring most will simply accept the Democrat lies without researching further and failing to actually see the distortions. The lack of leadership in the Democrat Party is very troubling and only serves to prove how desperate the Democrats truly are. On a local level, no Democrats have done the right thing and called for the ads to be pulled. On a state level the silence is the same as Senior Senator Mary Landrieu played ignorant to the ads, but likely received notice early on. Even if Landrieu did not get an early copy, she has had plenty of time and notice since to be rightfully disgusted, yet she remains a silent partner. Apparently when Democrats leave office they recapture what morals they had as proven by a former communications strategist for Governor Blanco. Bob Mann, now a mass communication professor at LSU, called the ad an outrageous attack that distracts from more important topics in the governor’s race. Mr. Mann was quoted on Town Hall with Lee Fletcher as saying, “I have a pretty high tolerance for this kind of stuff, but my reaction was I was fairly well shocked. I was really surprised that the party would run something that explosive and that inflammatory.”
Neither Foster Campbell, nor Walter Boasso, both Democrat candidates for Governor, has stepped forward to denounce the offensive campaign ads. With campaign personnel hoping for a boost in the polls from the egregious ads, both candidates appear to be well-informed as to the content of the ads, despite recent denials. With Walter Boasso being the chosen candidate of the Louisiana Democrat Party it would seem highly unlikely that this commercial would be a total surprise to Boasso. More likely, Boasso, having been selected as the leader of the Democrat Party, was given a “first showing” and gave it his full blessing. With ridiculous ads having Boasso playing with cardboard cutouts, it is hardy a stretch to think Boasso capable of orchestrating the whole sordid affair. If not, Boasso should be leading the call to have the ads removed and further calling for the resignation of those responsible for such a tasteless and immoral outrage.
Displaying no leadership and looking as equally ridiculous as he does in his “cutout commercials”, Walter Boasso in interviews yesterday claimed ignorance of the ads. Boasso, while claiming to be a Catholic, said in the interview that he has not seen the troubling ads, but in the same breath calls on Jindal to respond to their accusations. Can you be more ridiculous, Mr. Boasso? One has to wonder if Mr. Boasso would choose to respond to such clear lies about his faith if the shoe were on the other foot.
Given other underhanded activities by local New Orleans Democrat Committee members, there is certainly no guarantee other outrageous ads will not rise from the depths of the Democrat sewer.
One difference the Democrats may have not counted on is how Bobby Jindal is handling these immoral slurs. In the previous Governor election, Bobby Jindal insisted that his campaign would be ran cleanly and would not get involved with the distasteful practices of the Democrat Party. In an earlier interview, Bobby made it clear; trusting the Democrats to run a respectful campaign was a mistake. “We won”t make the same mistake, again. We might make other mistakes, but we won’t make the same mistakes.” Often times a person has to dirty their hands when dealing with scoundrels. Go get’em, Bobby!!The honest people of Louisiana will understand and appreciate your defense against such outrageous lies, and your supporters have lots of soap to wash off that weak dirt after you purge Baton Rouge of that disgusting filth.

“It can easily be said that the Democrats hold the voters in North Louisiana in complete disdain, thinking them not smart enough to do their own research and unable to see through the Democrats’ outright lies.”
It is easy to say that, of course it is false. Actually, the Democrats provide a website where voters can see links to the articles so they CAN make their own decisions about what the Democrats say (unlike the pathetic clown commercial that provides no sources as to why the Jindal campaign is making those assertions)
Now, would I have personally ran these ads if I was the head of the Democratic Party? No, I wouldn’t have run them. I would have prefered the “coronation” and “best actor” ones.
However, while the commercial may not perfectly convey what Jindal says, it does accurately represent the fact that what Jindal stated in those writings would be insulting to protestants.
Jindal may not specifically say “Protestants are heretics†but he does say that being a protestant (and therefore not accepting “Catholicism’s authoritative Magisteriumâ€) leads to heresy.
He may not specifically say that “Protestants are scandalous†but he does say that the divisions in Christianity (that created Protestantism) where scandalous.
He may not specifically say that “Protestants are depraved and selfish†but he does imply that the way Protestants interpret the Bible is flawed because humans are “utterly depraved†and selfish and they need the Catholic Church to determine what the Bible means.
Jindal may not have came up with the words “utterly depraved” (as he stated in a radio interview) but he did use those words to back up his claims (so he obviously agrees with them).
Jindal, in that radio interview, claims that he only mentions other specific denomination when he praises them. This is very misleading because yes, he only mentions specific denominations to give them praise. However, he attacks Protestantism as a whole, which include all those denominations, when he says that the Catholic Church is the only one capable of interpreting the Gospel. He says that Jesus Christ wanted “us†united. What he leaves out in the audio is that in order to truly be united, you have to follow the Catholic Church. Basically, Jindal is saying that people need to worship the way that Jindal worships or they are incorrect because they trust their own minds and doing so is flawed.
Now, as a follower of the Catholic Church of course Jindal will believe these things. If one thought that Protestants was correct one would be a Protestant and not a Catholic. But when Jindal makes religion part of his campaign, his statements on religion become fair game (as is ANY OTHER topic you bring up while you campaign). But no, Jindal wants to run for governor without people saying bad things about him (yet it is ok for him to run that clown ad). This just proves Jindal to be a hypocrite.
Dan,
I am a protestant, and I am very offended. I’m very offended that the Democrat party thinks I am so intolerant of other people’s religious beliefs that differ from mine. I believe my religion is better than catholicism, that’s why I am a Baptist. We all feel our religion is the best one, that’s why we go to the church we go to.
But thinking your religion is the best isn’t necessarily an insult to other religions. In fact, we all can find reasons why our church is the correct one.
I offended that your party is so open in thinking that Christians are so stupid, so ignorant, and so hateful towards other religions, that Bobby Jindal saying his religion is better than ours is reason enough to crucify him. Maybe you’re right, maybe the people in North Louisiana are as your party thinks them. As for me, I’m deeply offended.
As for Bobby Jindal’s clown ad, I laughed, it was funny, but it wasn’t effective and didn’t really deliver a message. Over all, I’d give Jindal’s Ad a C-, but mostly because of the humor. The Democrats ad, I’d give an F because it’s so bad that it probably will hurt the Democrats greatly.
No, thinking your own religion is best is not necessarily an insult to other religions. Coming out and saying that the REASON other religions are wrong is because they rely on human translation of the holy scriptures and humans are depraved, selfish, self justifying and filled with original sin. THAT is what would be insulting to many protestants.
If YOU PERSONALLY are not offended by it, it still doesn’t change the fact that thousands of others may ver well be.
Nobody is saying that Christians are stupid. They are just pointing out Bobby Jindal’s own words about other Christian sects and providing those people a way to go verify exactly what he said.
Notice, when Teeple defends Jindal he uses a partial quote from Jindal (”we do worship the same Trinitarian God who died for our sins “) HOWEVER he does not use the entire sentance which states “Without inflating the issues that separate Catholics from Protestants, for we do worship the same Trinitarian God who died for our sins, I want to refute the notion that Catholicism is merely another denomination with no more merit than any other. ” To deny that some Protestants are going to be offended by this and other statements made in Jindal’s essay is absurd.
You are right about Jindal’s ad. It had “funny stuff” but had no message.
And you may be right about the religion ad hurting the Democratcs. I personally wouldn’t have run that ad if I was him. I was actually expecting something else entirety. I was expecting an ad showing that Jindal says one thing to Protestants and another thing to Catholics. But in reallity, Id rather the Democratic party show more of the “best actor” ad because that actually provides sourced material and even has a funny ending that makes a point.
When liberal Democrats are even upset at their own party for running this ad, you know it’s disgraceful, Danny.
Nick: I wish they would have spent their money on the other ads like the \”coronation\” one or the \”best actor\” one. However, when you stop listening to the misleading spin of the Jindal campaign and actually read what he wrote, you plainly see that he has written things that are insulting to Protestants and the commercial basically gets it right.
As I have mentioned on Jindal Is Bad, Jindal did not call Protestants \”utterly depraved\” however, he did use those words in describing humans and why a human interpretation of the Bible (i.e. not one taken from the Catholic Church) would be flawed. This would mean that according to Jindal\’s argument, Protestantism is based on flawed interpretations by utterly depraved people. That is clearly stated in Jindal\’s essay.
And when Timmy Teepell has to use a partial quote to try and defend Jindal because the full quote actually proves the argument made by the Democratic party, you know it is pretty sad.
Jindal could have just said \”I am a Catholic, I follow the Catholic Church\” and left it at that. But he didn\’t. He started the old song and dance routine that he and his campaign gives about anything. I don\’t think the Jindal campaign knows how to tell the truth anymore. He is probably too afraid to lose votes to actually give the people a straight answer.
Daniel Zimmerman,
It would appear that the local Democrat committee has you working overtime trying to make this situation into something better than the disaster it is.
Your defense of the ad is as insulting as the ad.
It is a serious character flaw to be unable to admit a mistake, especially one as huge as this one. You gain no credit by saying you would not have run the ad IF you were the head of the Democrat Party and then go on to repeat the same lies.
There was NOTHING accurate about the ad and EVERYONE involved knew it BEFORE it was ever released. To say otherwise is to say the Democrat Party is a bunch of buffoons. I do not believe that to be the case. I believe everything about this ad was nothing less than premeditated. I believe the despicable individuals ultimately responsible for this ad seeing the light of day knew EXACTLY what they were doing and those same Democrats knew FULL WELL the ad was a myriad of falsehoods.
Your analysis of the ad bears no credibility given your past distortions of Bobby\’s record. I would prefer to take the word of an independent source affording you more respect than you have allowed our readers.
(From KNOE-TV, Monroe, LA)
\”ULM Political Scientist John Sutherlin says this type of attack ad is something new in Louisiana.
Sutherlin says, \”We haven\’t seen anyone overtly attacked based on sayings that they\’ve made with regards to religion and we\’ve also not seen this selective way that they\’ve targeted Jindal.\”
Sutherlin is referring to this television ad which takes quotes from Jindal\’s review.
………….
Sutherlin says, \”The television ad itself selects key phrases and words from some of Jindal\’s writings.\”
Such as the term \”scandalous.\” Jindal says the word comes from a larger portion of text referring to the process of denominations becoming divided - not the actual denominations themselves.
The sentence in its entirety reads: \”Post-reformation history does not reflect the unity and harmony of the \”one flock\” instituted by Christ, but rather a series of scandalous divisions and new denominations, including some that can hardly be called Christian.\”
The phrase \’utterly depraved\’ is also used, but according to the full text, it\’s a term used by Protestant Reformer John Calvin. Jindal merely quotes that term, as well as the Calvinist phrase \”selfish desires.\”
Sutherlin says, \”A lot of what is being portrayed in the ads is not quite accurate, they are a distortion of what he actually said.\”
It is also very telling, Mr. Zimmerman, just how far back the hacks had to go and were still unable to come up with anything truthful to use against Bobby. With nothing at all to use against this good man, the Democrats fabricated the most despicable lies possible in an attempt to conjure up nothing less than a \”holy war\”.
Perhaps your lack of Christian teachings does not allow you to understand the egregious nature of trying to pit Christian against Christian, and I do not hold that against YOU. However, Mr. Boasso is a self-proclaimed Catholic that SHOULD know better. If Mr. Boasso is the best the Democrats have to offer, then how could it be more clear that Louisiana is in dire need of change, given the Democrat control this state has suffered for too many years.
