When Mary Landrieu came to Reserve, La, accompanied by four members of President Obama’s cabinet, she was greeted by one memorable person, who said “It will be a cold day in hell before he socializes my country!”. The crowd cheered. Senator Mary Landrieu never expected the people to be so outraged, and promised another town hall. What she was hoping for was another townhall meeting where they can get more people turning out to support health care reform, and to some extent she succeeded. Still, her first townhall really can’t be counted since nobody knew about it until the we at Louisiana Conservative broke the story just a couple of days before she was coming town, and the other town hall was at least publicized. So, in the end, while Senator Vitter has held a few Town Halls, Mary Landrieu stayed away from the Louisiana public in general, and in principle.
When the Saints were playing in the NFC championship game against the Chicago Bears in 2007, I remember how there was a blizzard in Colorado. In Southeast Colorado there is a canyon called Picketwire Canyon. The name came from the cowboy pronounciation of Purgatoire, which in Louisiana, there probably is no need to explain the definition of that French word. The French had named the Purgatoire river because the Spanish name that preceeded it was much longer. That name “El Rio de Las Animas Perdidas en Purgatorio” or translated in english means “The River of Lost Souls in Purgatory”.
When that blizzard hit Colorado, it was perhaps the worst snowstorm that anybody alive in Colorado had witnessed. I know Southeast Colorado had froze over, which means Picketwire had froze over, and if Purgatory froze over, I was certain hell had froze over, and I believed the Saints would win the Superbowl.
This year we’ve seen snow twice in Louisiana, once at the beginning of the year, once at the end of the year, though the snow flurries lasted maybe 15 minutes the second time, and to start off the new year there is a cold front that’s going to settle here in Louisiana for 3 or 4 days. Saints have homefield advantage, the House and Senate have eached passed their own health care bills… What do you think? Yes folks, it does appear that hell is freezing over, and the Democrats are going to feel fire and brimstone in the 2010 elections.
