This will be short and to the point. I sat here and flipped through the channels hoping to find something worthy of my time only to cede the TV remote to my wife as she turned it to The Bachelorette . What comes on next? A rerun of America’s Got Talent. Every night of the week on more channels than you would think is some sort of distraction from real life ironically called a reality show. What disturbed me even more as I thought about the number of reality shows currently on air were the ones that actually robbed me of my time.
When you think of an addiction, most people would think alcohol, drugs or even work. As I thought about the amount of time I wasted watching some of these shows I thought, just how many others thrived on these shows and can’t make it through the day without a fix. From “The Amazing Race” to “Who Wants to Marry My Dad?” and every show in-between, too many Americans have been conditioned to think a lot of these shows really happen and can’t wait for the next episode. I know this because I look forward to several of them myself. However, coming to this reality, as any rehab will tell you, is the first step in admitting you have an addiction.
One addiction I am proud to boast of is that of a newly born political junkie. I just can’t consume enough information on any given day and wish I had gotten hooked on politics long ago. Where are you when it comes to today’s current events that will affect us for a long time to come? We all have so much to make up for and I’m calling on you to get hooked!!
