Since Boysie Bollinger –CEO of Bollinger Ship Yards Inc. and former chairman of the state Republican Party– began his support for Mary Landrieu in 2008, both he and Bollinger Shipyards have benefited in a huge economic windfall. Bollinger stands to make tens-of-millions of dollars in tax-payer funded contacts thanks to his support of Landrieu.
In the 2008 election cycle Bollinger Ship Yards donated $14,550 to the Landrieu campaign (Federal Election Commission,) That same year, Bollinger Ship Yards received its First Cutter contract worth $88 million. During the 2010 and 2012 election cycles, Bollinger Ship Yards donated $15,900 and $23,250 ,respectfully, to the Landrieu campaign. On September 21, 2012, –announced on Landrieu’s web page– Bollinger Ship Yards was awarded another USCG contract –worth $250 Million– to build more Cutters.
Landrieu — member of the Senate committee on Appropriations, and chair of the Appropriations subcommittee on Homeland Security– has used her influence to secure lucrative United States Coast Guard (USCG) contacts for Bollinger Ship Yards to build Sentinel-class Cutters –at an estimated $1.5 Billion if the USCG exercise all 34 scheduled Cutters.
With the latest “Mary Landrieu approved message” entitled “Ship Builder,” Bollinger declares, “he is with Mary.” Bollinger states his support stems from Landrieu’s chairmanship of the Senate Energy Committee, but Bollinger’s role may be to thank Landrieu while showing a Republican can support the Democatic Senator Landrieu.
