Non-profit slush funds in LA

April 26, 2008

Where is the outrage??? According to this article, 66 non-governmental groups (charities to me) were “earmarked” or “slush funded” to receive our hard earned tax dollars. Something stinks in Louisiana and to the tune of $13,985,227.

"Charity is no part of the legislative duty of the government." (James Madison, speech in the House of Representatives, January 10th, 1794) Here, here.

There's plenty outrage over this fiasco, just not much in mainstream "press" outlets. Check forgotston.com stories dated 4-14-08 and 4-21-08. As of 4-21-08 the total of the slush funds exceeded $20 million and I've seen projections that it weill exceed $30. It is noted that some of the allegedly conservative house and senate members are hip deep in pork. This coincided with the governor's statements that great care must be excercised in spending the public's money. Jindal is at a crossroad on proving all that he meant all that he campaigned on. Without repair, the whole ethics program is useless. Without line item vetos to excise this pork, all the noble statements of promised fiscal responsibility are just more political garbage. Maybe Bobby will address these issues on Leno-he certainly doesn't seem to want to discuss anything with the local press.
