Everyone from Sean Hannity to Chris Matthews on MSNBC’s Hardball are crying about the Scooter Libby verdict. People are already talking about how President Bush should pardon him.
It speaks volumes about how our society, our media has become so pro-government. Innocent or not, Scooter Libby was a hack, a Washington Insider with access to the best legal counsel money can buy. As with other high profile cases (eg Martha Stewart) he was found guilty of lying under oath before Federal Grand Jury. The easy way to have prevented this would have been for him to keep his mouth shut and not talk. But I digress.
Right now, former border agents Ramos and Compean are doing hard time for shooting at an illegal alien Mexican drug smuggler. Where the hell were Hannity and Matthews when these two men were found guilty? Where are they now? These men are rotting behind bars and have left behind fatherless families, and the cries for their pardons have not been nearly as vociferous.
Scooter Libby was more than capable of defending himself, much more so than those two border agents. Yet our media is more obsessed with his fate than that of these two great border agents.
It’s totally and utterly sickening to see more sympathy for a high level government employee than for common men.
