Scram Scammers

October 30, 2007

This is a scam email that I got yesterday:

After the last annual calculations of your fiscal activity we have determined that you are eligible to receive a tax refund of $109.30. Please submit the tax refund request and allow us 6-9 days in order to process it.

A refund can be delayed for a variety of reasons. For example submitting invalid records or applying after the deadline.

To access the form for your tax refund, please click here

Regards,
Internal Revenue Service

When you click on the email, (which I did not link to the website) it takes you to this page:
http://www.avidoenlinea.com/projects/includes/web-login/Internal/Re,

I have altered the web location so that none of the readers can go directly to the site. Still, I want to point out that if you look in the address bar, the address does not have IRS.GOV in the beginning. This is usually the first identifier in identity theft sites.

People, please stop falling for these shenanigans. I’m sick and tired of hearing about identity theft and there’s so many other ways you can have your identity stolen that we ought not make it easy for them. I’m getting these types of messages everyday and I’m not falling for them, but it’s absolutely amazing to me that so many people still are.

If you are one of the scammers doing this, it’s long past time to put you behind bars, but, you’re time is coming.
