In light of the SCOTUS decision on the “Affordable Healthcare Act” better known as “Obamacare” and the nations reaction to it, was Norman Thomas right when he said in a quote that is attributed to him “The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism,’ they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”
Are the American people now waking and asking how did this happen to our country? Judging by the people’s repulsion to the SCOTUS decision I would reason that yes he was right and yes we are now as a nation asking how did this happen.
Obamacare is the holy grail of socialism for it allows government to manage its assets and liabilities. What are these assets and liabilities? We are. If a person is able to contribute to the State they are an asset to the State, if a person cannot they are a liability to the State. By controlling ones healthcare the State will determine who are the assets and who are the liabilities. Assets will be taken care of until they become a liability and the State will able to control these assets by taxing / penalizing the activity government deems detrimental to their assets under the umbrella of health and limit the States exposure to its liabilities by denying procedures to those government deems not contributing to or no longer able contribute to the State as cost effective measures. The American citizen with this decision is no longer an individual but is reduced to nothing more than a line item on a government ledger sheet to be used and yes abused by the State.
Are we now a socialist nation? This decision confirms for all that care to see that yes we are a socialist nation. The question now is what are we as Americans going to do about it. Do we accept this massive intrusion on our unalienable right or do we get down to the business of fighting back the forces of tyranny.
This country fought a bloody war between itself over the issue of slavery and rightfully defeated it. The issue of slavery then was whether one man could own another man; today it’s whether the State can own the people. Socialism is State sanctioned slavery of its people. Why have we as a nation not risen up in mass defiance over this issue?
As Abraham Lincoln said, taking from the bible, “a house divided against itself cannot stand”. We as a people are as divided as ever before over the issue of an omnipresent, omnipotent government verses the truths espoused in our Declaration of Independence. These two opposing forces cannot coexist. Which force will triumph has yet to be decided, that choice will ultimately be determined by the people. If slavery by the State is what this nation wants, slavery is surely what we will get.
Will we once again stand up to the King as our forefathers did and fight or will we just bow in submission to him or just cower in the corner and ignore the obvious and hope for the best?
Our faith and our hopes should be placed in our God, not in man.
