What The….?

March 13, 2011

According to IBD, President Obama blamed oil companies for the lack of drilling. This is the most jaw dropping claim I think I have ever heard from a President of the United States. Let’s review the last year. I don’t know what President Obama has been doing, but apparently he hasn’t been paying attention to what’s happened in the Gulf of Mexico.

On April 20, 2010, the Macondo or Deepwater Horizon had an explosion the killed 11 crew members on board. On May 28, 2010, the Obama administration imposed a six month drilling moratorium in the Gulf of Mexico. This is where this becomes shocking, and will somebody please tell President Obama that it’s not the oil companies that are refusing to drill, it’s his administration that is doing more than what’s in it’s power to prohibit drilling.

In June, Judge Martin Feldman struck down the drilling moratorium and on July 12, Obama’s administration issued a new moratorium on drilling. In September, Feldman again struck down the moratorium. The Obama administration, full of intelligence that it is, could not understand Judge Feldman’s ruling and needed time to comprehend it.

Finally, in the beginning of October, the Obama administration “lifted” the moratorium on drilling. However, lifting the moratorium did not include issuing permits, and again, the Obama administration found itself back in the courts.

On December 1, 2010, the Obama administration issued a new moratorium that would last for 7 years, and also included drilling in the Atlantic as well as the Pacific.

On February 3, 2011, Judge Martin Feldman ruled that the Obama administration is in contempt over Gulf Drill Ban.

On Friday, March 11, 2011, the Obama administration issued a drilling permit to BHP Billiton. This was the second permit issued by the Obama administration since the moratorium had first been put in place.

Also on Friday, March 11, 2011, former President Bill Clinton called the delays on drilling “ridiculous“. Quoting former President Bill Clinton.

Clinton said there are “ridiculous delays in permitting when our economy doesn’t need it,” according to Noe and others

Also on Friday, March 11, 2011, President Obama held a press conference stating repeatedly that he is not against drilling and that the oil companies are refusing to drill.

While Senator Vitter and other Republicans have been fighting for drilling in the state of Louisiana, Senator Mary Landrieu stuck her neck out and voted for Obamacare. What she has in President Obama is the same type of loyalty Joseph Cao received from the Obama administration. Cao also voted for Obamacare, and in return, President Obama endorsed his opponent. Senator Landrieu’s complaints over the drilling moratorium falls on deaf ears inside the Obama White House.

Perhaps the solution is to make sure that we send Senator Landrieu packing in the next election, and send a Republican in her place. The bright side in all of this is if a Republican wins the White House, we would have two Senators representing us that would be sharing power. The other bright side is, if Obama wins re-election, at least we will have done our part to ensure that President Obama has a Senate as hostile to him, as he has been to energy production and to the State of Louisiana.
